Peter Mango

Transportation Manager

Account: Do it Best (Montgomery, NY)

Pete Mango started his career as a Ryder Integrated Solutions driver in 2005, working out of the Do it Best Distribution Center in Montgomery, New York.

Two years later he transitioned into a management role there and was the Assistant Transportation Manager when Transervice was awarded the transportation contract for the Montgomery location and two more in Lexington, SC, and Woodburn, OR.

In February of 2023, Pete was promoted to Transportation Manager in Montgomery, working with his assistant, Anthony Dobkowski, to manage 30 drivers and oversee a fleet of 30 tractors and 56 tractor trailers delivering hardware to Do it Best stores from West Virginia to Maine.

Do it Best is the only US-based, member-owned comprehensive and fully integrated hardware, lumber and building materials buying cooperative in the home improvement industry.  Pete is well regarded there as the longest tenured Do it Best employee at the Montgomery, NY Distribution Center. “I know this account inside and out,” he says.

As Transportation Manager Pete works with his assistant to dispatch the drivers, align the transportation equipment and route planning, and meet with customers to plan future order scheduling and equipment needs. He is also responsible for many of the financial aspects of the transportation operation and assists General Manager Ken Presson with various duties related to the Lexington and Woodburn locations.

Pete has physically worked at both of these facilities to assist with startup operations. “Having supported Do it Best for nearly 20 years, they like to pick my brain about how we can continually improve our service.”

The Transervice/Do it Best partnership includes a commitment to “Wreaths Across America,” an organization that shows veterans and their families that they will never be forgotten.

This is the 8th year that the two companies have come together to support the organization. Pete oversees the logistics coordination to pick up wreaths in Columbia Falls, Maine on the third Saturday of December and transport them to various cemeteries throughout Pennsylvania where volunteers place the wreaths on the veterans’ graves.

Pete starts coordinating the logistics for this in the spring and Transervice donates the manpower and the time to deliver the wreaths. “It usually takes a full day from the time you get to the first drop and complete all of the rounds.”

Pete describes Transervice as “a great company to work for.” He likes to spread the word to his co-workers about the potential for career growth and the ability to “work your way up the chain of command” to eliminate red tape and get the job done.

A New York transplant, Pete has been married for 35 years to his wife, Leonora. They have two older daughters, Kayla and Gianna, and live in the Poconos area of Lords Valley, PA. As a couple they enjoy spending time with their family and visiting wineries throughout the tri-state area. When he needs to pick up the pace, Pete can be found riding his motorcycle.
